What the Fuck You Want?

Not living where it gathers ice, I settle for the sounds of crunching leaves during the winter. Nothing like finding a dry swath of leaves, well cooked from the sun and not yet touched by dew and showers. OOOH the leaf-puddle hopping I do, with the gleeful crunches and crackles and snapples and munches of lovely dry leaves squunching under my boots. ... SIGH! Thanks! That's a keen memory to dreg out of my head. And dood - if I prune you, can I crunch the leaves after? (wink)

Mmm, I like the subway's chug, pigeons' coos, purring of all sorts, and yes definitely both ice and leaf crushing. Also, wet puddles and wet rain on certain things, like asphalt and skin. Mmm, but the sound of someone chewing, smacking their lips or purging mucous, SWEET GOD it makes me homicidal. Shit, your entry actually reminded me of this great Schopenhauer bit about sounds, and how sensitivity to them is the mark of a worthy, working mind.

yeah - those crackly ice pockets are the shit to crunch. So crisp and satisfying. The rant about the senses got me to thinking - I can replay sounds and pictures at will, but what would really be cool is to be able to access touch memory. Damn, think of the possibilities.

my favorite sound happens in late june after a rain when from an upstairs bedroom you can hear the first truly lush oak leaves sliding across one another and attempting to recall the ocean. i can lie there and imagine palm fronds. you just reminded me of that and perhaps that will pull me through to summer...
